Seoul Yo: Hey how about a movie for the weekend? :) Joint Security Area( 공동 경비구역 JSA)

This is my first time to post about a movie so maybe I am a bit cautious about it.

The reason is simple because rather than a expert I am just a audience who likes film :) So I would say that my posting might not be correct in some way but I can assure you that I will only post the movie that I have watched at least third times. So that I can assure you that the movie is worth watching it. So lets begin. :)

How much do you know about Korea? Food? Heritage? or the place where to go shopping? I agree if you know those kind of places it will be enough to have some fun here but if you are interested in history you might want to watch this movie it`s called “Joint security area” (공동경비구역 JSA) that was released in 2000.

Korea is divided in two piece , the north and the south, and had a huge civil war during 1950-1953 and now having a temporary halt for about 54 years. I know the “temporary” word is a bit odd to use because it has been 54 years but still the civil war is not over and both North and the South are having a rest.

The movie is a story about the military soldiers, both South and the North, who were doing there duty near the truce line.
Major Sophie E Jang comes from the UN to invest a gunfight that was in the truce line and she meets Sergeant Lee Su Hyeok to know the about the situation, and that is where the story begins, she notice that even though the truce line is forbidden to cross over, sergeant Lee Su Hyeok and his fellow soldier First class soldier Nam Sung Sik went to north guard post at night to see Sergeant first class Oh Kyung Pill and soldier Jung U Jin who are north soldiers .

(* from now on I will just type the character by there family name for convenience *)

The first meeting of Lee and Oh was a real coincidence. Lee accidently stepped on a mine and was in a big trouble while Jung and Oh was passing by there, and noticed Lee .At first sight they were hostile to each other but soon Oh realized Lee was in a huge trouble, so he helped Lee and saved his life. after that incidence they became friends and met at the north guard post every night and had long midnight talk and became friend and Lee also persuaded Nam to come along to Oh and succeeded.

That`s how the four(Oh,Jung,Lee,Nam) became friends and had a lots of night talking and laughing all the time. But the peace didn`t last long . There was a serious incident between North Korea and the South Korea and that made the truce line atmosphere in peril. So Lee and Nam agreed to go the north guard post for the last time to say good bye. And that`s where the tragedy happened that night. And the sun rised and there were lots of gunshot and 2 dead body. The ones who knew the truth was Lee and Oh and Nam but the testimony between the three didn't match and that`s where Jangs investigation begins.

I won`t be telling more about the story here now because it will be a spoiler. The movie was inspired by a real event that happened in “Panmunjeom” and still not figured out.

I recommend you to focus on the 3 points in the movie.

First the actors and the actresses act, in the movie the actors act are realistic, they use the Korean in northern style and the southern style but can`t find any awkward moment in there, and when the scene gets tense you can see the actor and the actress essence.

Second the whole plot is about the investigation about the gunfight in the North guard post, and one of the main character Jang will start the investigation and you can feel as you are next to her doing the investigation together, that is also a good point of the movie,

And the last but not the least is the twist at the ending. the scenario is really detailed and all of that is for the ending so please don`t get any spoiler before watching the movie and just watch it. :)
